Fjällräven
Fjällräven

The Fjällräven story begins in 1960 in the small town of Örnsköldsvik, in the rugged north of Sweden. The young entrepreneur Ake Nordin, fascinated by durable, high-quality outdoor gear, began producing a lightweight yet durable and robust aluminum-frame backpack. The success of his initial development spurred him on, and the product portfolio quickly expanded to include tents, sleeping bags, jackets, and other clothing items. Fjällräven quickly became one of the most popular and sought-after brands among outdoor enthusiasts, even far beyond Sweden's borders.

Kanken

The company's success was based not only on the quality of its products, but also on its ecological and ethical responsibility. Therefore, it was no surprise that Ake Nordin soon became concerned with the fact that many Swedish schoolchildren were struggling with back pain and poor posture. Instead of the outdated leather satchels, he developed the practical and comfortable Kanken backpack in 1978, which not only quickly caught on with the younger generation but has since become a global classic of the brand. Durability, a distinctive shape, and high recognition have transformed the former school backpack into one of the most popular accessories in recent years.

With the "Re-Kanken" project, the brand once again underscores its ecological and resource-saving commitment. The backpacks, featuring a tonal logo, are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The raw material is just 11 bottles, which are then converted into a polyester thread using the SpinDye process, ultimately creating a new Kanken. When the Kanken reaches the end of its useful life in the distant future, it can be recycled using the same process and made into something else.

G1000 – Water-repellent & weather-resistant

As early as 1968, Fjällräven laid one of the foundations of its success: With its proprietary G1000 material, Ake Nordin created a polyester-cotton blend that is both lightweight and water-repellent and weather-resistant—the perfect foundation for any type of outdoor gear. The material is inextricably linked to Fjällräven's products and, today more than ever, plays a major role in the Swedish company's collections.

The combination of high-quality, environmentally friendly products and a clean, simple style ensures that the label is one of the most popular brands of our time, even outside of the outdoor world. Whether on a long hike in the countryside, a night under a clear sky, or in a drafty stadium – with Fjällräven, you can face nature and the elements well-dressed anywhere.
